WHAT ARE YOU STATING?
I mean what fashionista doesn’t love to make a statement? Oftentimes, in fashion, when we think of making a statement, we tend to gravitate toward bold over the top accessories or even clothing. This can be great for some looks, but for me, I like to focus on the overall look. What am I stating today? And most times, if not all of the time, I pull inspiration from within. Am I feeling bold, or do I just want to grab a leather jacket, some thigh high boots, and a red lip to express my declaration. Majority of the time I keep it simple. I’ll add a nice bag and accessorize with some beautiful bracelets, a nice watch, and a pair of hoop earrings to tell my fashion story, as shown here. With this fashion story, I pulled inspiration from within. I felt empowered, sexy, and confident, so I wanted my look to represent that.
I’m totally obessed with all things leather, suede and a fire red bold lippie. I found this really dope leather MARNI jacket from Luxury Garage Sale here in Chicago, because while I love nice, fancy things, I also like my money to be spent wisely. LOL! Sooo, bargain shopping is a must for me. You will find throughout my fashion stories that most items that I Rock are directly out of my closet and I’ve most likely had it for many years. I like to take high end pieces and pair them with what I call vintage pieces from my own personal wardrobe. I love taking what I have and totally revamping it into something new and fresh. I don’t like to follow trends, and I typically move to the beat of my own drum. If I like it, I’m Rocking it! I typically splurge on shoes and bags, but even then, I find a way to find it for less than the purchase price. Just call me the fashion bounty hunter!!! Cause baby I will search and search until I find what I love to fit the budget that I have. No keeping up with the Jones over here. LOL!
To express my love for leather I wanted this beautiful second hand MARNI jacket to speak for itself. So, I paired it with a pair of black Jbrand Jeans, thigh high Brian Atwood boots, a black and white snakeskin belt that I purchased years ago from TjMaxx, pulled out my statement Gucci bag and hoop earrings that were purchased from the African Festival of Arts, here in Chicago. I took a simple leather jacket and added my own personality to the look to represent my fashion truth. Fashion, is a personal expression it allows you to tell your story, who you are, how you are feeling, and what you represent without speaking. For me, there is no right or wrong way to fashion! If you like it, I love it! Rock whatever makes you feel the most empowered. Draw inspiration from within. Express your individuality and always remember to be Bold, Confident, and Free.
